What Goes Around Comes Around
Monoprint with embroidery
7.5 x 11 in

ARTIST STATEMENT
This piece invites us to take a closer look at forced migration currents. They are not isolated events but rather a consequence of historical and political circumstances. Here, I use the symbols of the Genograms as a pictorial language. Genograms depict family emotional connections across generations. The continents are like families, symbolizing that we are all part of the human family. And yet, forced migration patterns resulted from colonization and/or political and economic exploitation, represented here by the Genogram symbol of abuse. This small map also invites us to take a closer look at ourselves while prompting us, perhaps, to think about how we look at "The Other." The other might be the migrant, the refugee, or anyone who is different from us.
